As a heating and air conditioning contractor in the greater Winston-Salem, NC area, we feel it’s our responsibility to make sure you, your family, and your home is comfortable all year round while keeping you energy bill to a minimum. To help keep your home comfortable and your HVAC system running efficiently and optimally, below are 4 fun facts that all homeowners should know.
Air Conditioning Systems Improve More Than Your Comfort
Our air conditioning systems keep us cool in the warmer months, but they also do much more. Studies have shown that the development of cooling systems have helped increase human life expectancy, improve productivity in the workplace (and at home), reduce the spread of disease and more.
Your Home Won’t Heat or Cool Faster if Your Change the Thermostat
Another important (maybe not so fun) fact is that your home won’t heat or cool any faster if you change the thermostat higher or lower. Your furnace and air conditioning system will still heat and cool your home at the same rate, it will just keep going after the house reaches your usual comfortable level. This will only increase your utility bills and waste energy.
The United States Uses a lot of Energy for Cooling Systems
It’s no secret that the community here in the greater Winston-Salem, NC area greatly value their air conditioning systems, but so does the rest of the United States. In fact, the annual energy consumption in the US for air conditioning is equal to the total yearly energy consumption in Africa. Air conditioning accounts for around 6% of all electricity used in the USA.
Your HVAC System Accounts for the Biggest Piece of Your Energy Bill
It’s no secret that your heating and air conditioning system accounts for a large chunk of your energy bill. Did you know that it accounts for the biggest piece of your utility bill? It typically accounts for 40% or more of your energy bill. That percentage can be even higher if your furnace, heat pump, or AC unit isn’t operating efficiently.
