GWYN SERVICES has been proudly serving the Carolinas since 1972.  Growing from a one-man electrical company to a multi-trade company that employs over 50 people and serves over a dozen NC counties, we are proud of our growth and the reputation we have earned for excellence and character.

1970s

Mr. Garfield Gwyn founded Gwyn Electric in 1972 as a self employed electrical contractor. He primarily served the Pfafftown area.
In the year 1972, Winston-Salem's population was 214,000, and the average annual salary was $4,025.

1980s-90s

The mergers of WS corporations in the 1980s led to the expansion of residential and commercial building projects. Gwyn Electric expanded to add Plumbing Services to its capabilities
Richard, a native of Winston-Salem, began his career in the HVAC industry working as asummer student helper for Bingham Heating & Air Conditioning. Following graduation from N.C. State University with B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1977, Richard worked in various engineering roles at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 12 years. In 1989 Richard purchased Bingham from retiring owner Sherman Bingham and operated it for 10 years focusing on HVAC sales & service. Amid nationwide consolidation of the industry, he sold Bingham to American Residential Services in 1998.

A New Millenneum

After becoming General Manager of Gwyn, Richard Harrington put together a team including Jeff Stallings, and Harold Marshall, Laura Norman and his father James Harrington to purchase the company in 2001. Gwyn expanded its HVAC and electrical presence; concentrating on residential service and installations and commercial new construction and upfits.
Following the 2008 recession, Gwyn refocused toward Residential Service and Replacements; downsizing to smaller commercial, electrical & HVAC projects, key strategic partnerships, and innovative new programs.

Our Current Era

Gwyn Services became the company’s new name, as management began to plan for long term goals to continue to add value and services. Gwyn Services focuses in on company culture and customer service as foundational elements of their business model.
In 2024, Gwyn Services opened its second service location in Morganton, NC. This expansion allows them to take residential and commercial electric, plumbing, and HVAC services westward along the I-40 corridor. Gwyn Services continues to innovate with services offered, including adding duct cleaning and leak detection services. Gwyn Services is seeking to embrace Green Technology, new tech for homes and business, and remaining nimble and growth oriented.
